Hospital Corneal Retrieval programme (HCRP)

We have Understanding with Hospitals like Government General Hospital, Kakinada CARE Emergency Hospital, Life Line Emergency Hospital, Safe Emergency Hospital and many more Hospitals in Rajahmundry, Amalapuram, Tuni.

The mutual co-operation is in Hospital Corneal Retrieval Programme, we have 2 Grief Counselors from our Eye Bank and they go to Government, General Hospital, the above mentioned other hospitals daily.

In Hospitals and nursing homes a significant number of deaths occur at the intensive care units and other wards. When the hospital deaths become definite then the grief counselor works starts by counseling the patient’s family with the help of the hospital nursing staff specially trained for this purpose. This is continuous source of eyes for the Eye Banks. When a death occur at the hospital, the grief counselor will co-ordinate the deceased person’s family for getting eye donation.

Call and referral Services

The eye bank services are available on a 24 hours basis to receive the calls for eye donations to provide assistance to Hospital Staff in determining the suitability of a potential donor or to provide any other assistance regarding authorization for donation etc. with understanding the hospitals are in constant touch with eye bank in this programme.

Retrieval Services

The eye bank will provide 24 hours availability to accept eye donations and will respond to referrals in timely fashion for this purpose we have three mobile phones. Members of the retrieval team are trained and at L.V.Prasad Eye Institute and their cell phone numbers are available with Hospitals and Nursing Homes.

Promotional Activities

1) Audio Visual Programmes:

As part of our activities we are conducting Audio Visual Programmes at Urban and Rural areas. So far we conducted 400 Audio Visual Programmes to spread the message of Eye Donation and to create awareness in the public at various places like Colleges, Courts, Government Offices and at Big Functions etc.

2) Participated by Establishing Stalls in various programmes

Participated in public functions like Seminars, Fetes, College Functions, Jataras, Sports Grounds and in general Exhibitions etc. to interact and educate the people. So far participated 100 programmes.

Eye Health and awareness programme
  • Continue Medical Education Programme (CME) to Eye Specialists
  • Continue Medical Education Programme (CME) general practitioners and other specialists.
  • Awareness programmes about cornea transplantation to all nursing homes private and Government hospital administrators and pharmacy staff.
  • Awareness programmes of cornea retrieved to medical and pharmacy staff.
